Backing & training of ponies
We back C and D ponies in a respectful yet consistent way. In addition, we further train young ponies and can also make them traffic-safe for hacking if desired..
When backing ponies, we deliberately choose a balanced approach. We position ourselves between, on the one hand, “professionals” who often work too harshly or too quickly with sensitive ponies, and on the other hand natural horsemanship amateurs who are sometimes not consistent enough. By combining experience, feel and clear boundaries, we quickly build a safe working relationship with the pony.
From what age can your pony be backed?
This is possible from 3 to 4 years of age, provided the pony is sufficiently developed both physically and mentally.
How do we work when backing your pony?
During the first week we assess the pony’s individual character and, based on our many years of experience with ponies and horses, determine how we can quickly build the right relationship to saddle the pony safely without putting ourselves or the pony at risk. When training a pony under saddle we do not create rodeos, but we also do not waste months on groundwork.
What can you expect after your pony has been backed?
- Your pony accepts mounting and dismounting
- Your pony can walk and trot under the rider
- Your pony can ride basic figures
What can you expect after your pony has been further trained?
- Your pony accepts mounting and dismounting
- Your pony can walk, trot and canter under the rider
- Your pony can ride figures and go over poles
- If required, your pony will also be traffic-safe and able to go out hacking
How long does it take and what does it cost to back and train your pony?
Backing only costs €150 per week and usually takes 2 to 3 weeks for a pony with good manners. Traffic training and further riding costs €200 per week and takes 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the desired level.(Prices include full board.)
